We’re sure Ben Platt needs little in the way of an introduction: the Tony, Emmy and Grammy winning star of Dear Evan Hansen (both the original Broadway production and the film version) is one of the defining voices of this generation of musical theatre performers.

Yes, we are reviewing a queer show that’s called Hole! – and yes, it’s exactly what you think it’s about. Well, kind of. This new production, from American Sing-Song (comedy duo Jake Brasch and Nadja Leonard-Hooper) has a completely unhinged premise: we’re introduced to a small religious cult in Nebraska, who believe that their world will end unless they wear butt plugs at all times.

Those with a keen eye on social media may have spotted online chatter about the sheer length of of new play The Oresteia, written and directed by Simon Stone, and based on the classic Greek tragedy trilogy by Aeschylus. Initial previews reportedly clocked in at the best part of five hours; by press night this had been substantially reduced to about three hours 40 minutes, but it’s still very much theatre on an epic scale.
