I’m Using Metaphors Wrong (And It’s Downright Disrespectful)

I sincerely apologize to the inventor of the metaphor for treating their literary device like ketchup. I will do better — starting with this tangent about windshield wipers. If you write like me, your first drafts are drier than chapped lips in a February windstorm. That’s why I always include a “metaphor pass” where I come up with abominations such as the sentence you just read. In this model, metaphor is working for me like ketchup works for my scrambled eggs.
