Strong to severe thunderstorms expected Sunday evening across central Ohio
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 10TV Weather Impact Alert Day has been issued for Sunday evening due to strong to severe storms that are expected across central Ohio. Temperatures will warm up into the weekend, with highs on Sunday expected to reach 80 degrees. But that warmth will come at a cost. A cold front will come racing into central Ohio between 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., which could encourage the development of a few strong to severe thunderstorms. Damaging wind and hail are the main concerns.
Lingering snow, ice, cold temps will slow the Tuesday morning commute
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Snow made its way back to central Ohio on Monday evening and cold temps means that snow won't be disappearing right away. A 10 Weather Impact Alert was issued for Tuesday morning due to icy and snowy road conditions that will likely impact the morning commute. Lingering snow and even a few snow squalls create icy and snow covered roads across parts of central Ohio Monday and overnight. Snow diminishes overnight but the damage will already be done.
Dense fog advisories issued for central Ohio counties
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 10TV Weather Impact Alert Day was issued for Tuesday morning due to dense fog across central Ohio. Dense fog developed again overnight into the Tuesday morning commute across the area. Visibility may be reduced to a quarter-mile or less. The National Weather Service also issued a Dense Fog Advisory for counties in central Ohio on Tuesday. The fog was not as widespread and thick as it was on Monday morning, but it was still an inconvenience.

Snow lingers until 9 a.m. Friday across western, southern Denver metro suburbs
DENVER — A Weather Action Day remains in place Friday morning for snow and slick roads. Snow tapers off in Denver Friday morning, but it lingers until 9 a.m. across the western and southern suburbs. An additional dusting of accumulation is possible. Then, skies turn sunny this afternoon with highs around 33. It’s a powder day in the mountains! Four to 8 inches of new snow accumulated at Aspen, Snowmass, Steamboat and Winter Park. Snow tapers off midday with sunshine Friday afternoon.
Sunny Sunday in Denver with Lingering Mountain Snow
It's a split forecast with the Central and Northern Mountains continuing to get snow accumulation. Over the past 48 hours, many ski resorts have picked up 1-2 feet of accumulation. I'm forecasting another 1-3 inches today. Denver and the Front Range are on the drier, warmer side of this flow. Expect lots of sunshine on Sunday with highs around 43. The Denver forecast stays dry over the next 4 days with lingering mountain snow again on Monday.
Moisture From Hurricane Lorena Hits The Southwest This Weekend
Remnant moisture from Hurricane Lorena might get sucked into the Southwest part of the country this weekend. This is similar to what occurred with Erin last week. Track Below is the atmospheric moisture forecast for Saturday. Notice where the green is located. Timing Remnant moisture from Lorena gets pulled into the flow between Friday and Monday. Rainfall The heaviest rainfall appears to hit Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, and Oklahoma. Stay with WeatherNation for the latest.
Moisture From Juliette Arrives Thursday-Friday
Residual moisture from Tropical Storm Juliette hits Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado between Thursday and Friday. This moisture will mix into existing Monsoon moisture across the region. Up to 1 inch of rainfall is possible with Juliette's remnant moisture. Cities like San Diego, Las Vegas, St. George, Salt Lake City, and Grand Junction can expect some rain. Most of the moisture streams across the Southwest Region between Thursday-Friday.

A surge of Monsoon moisture is headed for the Northwest between Tuesday and Thursday. Rainfall 1-3 inches of total rainfall is possible across Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. Flash Flooding There is a Slight Risk for Excessive Rain (dark green) on Tuesday. There is a Slight Risk for Excessive Rainfall (dark green) on Wednesday. Mendenhall Glacier outburst sends record water surge into Alaska's capital city
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Juneau, Alaska, the Mendenhall River crested at a record level of 16.65 feet (major flood stage). This level exceeds the 2024 record of 15.99 feet. Anyone living in the 17-foot lake level inundation zone should evacuate to higher ground. The NWS issued a Flood Warning for the Mendenhall River. Once the glacial outburst occurred it sent a wall of water downstream toward Juneau, AK. Notice the rapid rise in the Mendenhall River to over 16 feet.
Boomerang Moisture from Invest 93L Returns to Gulf Coast
21 Jul 2025 2:28 AM Leftover moisture from Invest 93L will loop back around and re-hit the Gulf Coast with heavy rain between Tuesday-Saturday. Some places could see 3-7 inches of rainfall. On Tuesday you can see the start of the wet pattern. Heavy afternoon rain is likely through Saturday.
Northeast Turns Cool & Soggy End Of Week
20 May 2025 6:23 PM An area of low pressure stalls later this week over the Great Lakes and Northeast with high rain chances, cloud cover, and much cooler temps. You might even need a light jacket. It sets the stage for a cooler end of week and weekend with high temps only in the 50s. Southeast Soaker This Weekend
A large trough of low pressure stalls over the Gulf Friday, May 9th, through Sunday, May 11th, and unloads heavy rain across the Gulf Coast and Southeastern U.S. Bad timing for anyone going on a beach vacation to Destin, Panama City, and Jacksonville. As we head into the end of the week and into the weekend, as this large upper low over the Lower Mississippi Valley lingers, heavy rainfall could measure up to 3-6" with isolated totals even higher than that.

By Monday, the trough of low pressure is squarely over Utah/Wyoming/Colorado and emerging into the Plains. 'Wingman' Documentary Follows First Man To Paraglide Across Colorado
Wingman is a brand new documentary that follows Peter Thompson as he becomes the first person to paraglide across the state of Colorado. Thompson breaks up the flight into about 10 days, and during the flight he lands on numerous 13,000ft and 14,000ft peaks. Meteorology is critical to success. Thompson has to find the most stable weather to complete the journey while avoiding daily thunderstorms.
Heavy Snow Hits The Rockies Later This Week
A classic April snowstorm hits the Rockies later this weekend and weekend. This is includes the mountains of CA, UT, WY, ID, MT, and CO. We could be looking at a foot or more of grand total accumulation in a few locations. A large dip in the jet stream (trough of low pressure) develops across the West with colder air and heavy rain & snow. Maximum snowfall timeline: Utah: PM 4/16-4/18, 4/21. Colorado: 4/18-4/19. Wyoming: 4/17-4/18, 4/21-4/22. Montana: PM 4/16-4/18, 4/21-4/22.
West Stays Active With Rain & Snow
A powerful storm system continues to deliver strong wind, heavy rainfall, and high elevation snowfall to the Pacific Northwest. Timing it out, precipitation moves from the PNW into ID/WY/MT/UT/CO through 3/28 and 3/29. PNW air temps are very warm initially then colder air moves in on 3/28. This should help to bring the freezing level (rain/snow line) back down to lower elevations. Places along the Pacific coast can expect heavy rainfall with a few inches of accumulation possible.

High pressure gives way to 2-3 different storm systems between 3/13-3/18. Heavy snow accumulation is likely for Utah and Colorado. The first storm system arrives (3/13-3/14) with a deep trough and powerful jet stream. Timing with Future Radar: Forecast snowfall 3/13-3/14. Ski specific forecast 3/13-3/14. A second storm system arrives 3/15-3/16, and a third storm system arrives 3/17-3/18. Feet of grand total accumulation is likely. Forecast grand totals by 3/19:
Next Storm System For Utah and Colorado
The next storm system hits Utah and Colorado 3/5-3/7. It's got powerful jet stream support, and the orographic flow across the Wasatch looks significant. The storm system is currently approaching California. Forecast Timing: I think we'll be measuring grand totals in feet across the Wasatch. In general, expect 1-3 feet by 5am Friday (3/7). Special note, this storm system will likely push Alta, UT over the 400-inch mark for the season so far.
Colorado's Ski Forecast Next 7 Days
2 Mar 2025 9:00 PM There are two storm systems lined-up for Colorado through 3/8. The first storm system 3/3-3/4 delivers colder air, gusty wind (30-50mph), and heavy snow for a few resorts. The bullseye for biggest accumulations: Loveland Ski Area, Cameron Pass, RMNP, A-Basin, Gore Range, Steamboat, and Vail Pass. Totals through 3/4: The 2nd storm system arrives 3/6-3/7 with heavy snow accumulation for the Western Slope (6-12 inches). Less accumulation across the Divide and Summit County.
Jay Peak Ski Area Has More Snow Than Alta Ski Area
26 Feb 2025 8:15 PM Imagine a ski resort in the Northeast with over 350 inches of snow so far this season. Jay Peak, VT is advertising just that. Alta, UT is one of the snowiest ski areas in all of North America averaging about 550 inches (about 45 feet) per winter season. In fact, Alta logged 903 inches during its biggest season on record in 2022-2023.
Long Wait For Colorado Skiers
23 Feb 2025 8:12 PM It could be a long wait for skiers looking for the next major mountain snow. A ridge of high pressure builds across parts of the West (including most of Colorado) through 3/2. The main stormtrack (jet stream) shifts north to favor the PNW/BC/ID/MT/WY for the most consistent snowfall. When can Colorado skiers expect new snow? A light dusting is possible on 2/24-2/25 in the Central and Northern Mountains, but I'm not forecasting anything major until on/after 3/2.
Heavy Snow Continues Across the Rockies Through 2/20
Heavy snow accumulation continues across the Rockies with two additional storm systems coming down the pipeline. The Tetons, Wasatch, parts of Idaho, and the Central and Northern Rockies can expect snow accumulation 2/16-2/18 & 2/19-2/20. The second storm system opens the flood gates for the PNW and British Columbia with a rich flow setting up 2/19-2/25 and feet of accumulation. Numerous Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories remain effect through Tuesday.
Heavy Snow For The Plains Tuesday-Wednesday
An area of low pressure will move out of the Rockies between Tuesday and Wednesday Night delivering 6-12 inches of snow accumulation to a large corridor of the Plains. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect: Timing: Forecast accumulation looks impressive in a large corridor including Hays, Omaha, Kansas city, Sioux City, Cedar Rapids, Madison, and parts of Chicago.
Snowy Period Ahead for Colorado
The jet stream shifts south and targets Colorado with cold and snow starting 2/11 and continues through 2/17. Denver could see several inches during this timeframe. The Mountains could see 1-3 feet of total accumulation. Timing: 1) An Arctic cold front hits Denver and the Front Range late 2/11 into early 2/12. Light to moderate snow accumulation likely for the I-25 Corridor and I-70 Corridor into the Mountains.
Snow Returns to Utah & Colorado on Friday-Saturday
It's been a warm and dry few days in the mountains of Utah and Colorado, but that's about to change. The next Pacific storm system hits the Wasatch Mountains (& High Uinta's) of Utah on Friday (2/7), and the Central and Northern Mountains of Colorado late Friday (2/7) into Saturday (2/8).
Heavy Snow Accumulation for Wyoming, Idaho & Montana through 2/9
The Pineapple Express is sending waves of heavy snow into Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. There are two additional storm systems through 2/9. What is the Pineapple Express? It's also known as an Atmospheric River (AR). Rich atmospheric moisture (from near Hawaii) gets picked up by the jet stream and then entrained into storm systems before being delivered to the West Coast. Watch the timing: Feet of total accumulation is likely across the mountains of Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana.
Atmospheric River Makes an Appearance This Weekend
29 Jan 2025 8:38 PM A moderate to extreme intensity surge of atmospheric river (AR) moisture hits parts of the West Coast between Friday and Saturday (1/31-2/1). What is an AR surge? It's extra moisture that is funneled into storm systems often making them wetter. AR events can generate flash flooding, mud slides, and feet of high mountain snowfall accumulation. The atmospheric river is sometimes referred to as the 'Pineapple Express'. Forecast AR intensity ranges from weak to extreme this weekend.
Strong Storm System Targets Hawaii with Wind, Rain and Snow
This might not be the best time to visit Hawaii. A large dip in the jet stream delivers a strong storm system loaded with heavy rain, thunderstorms, gusty wind (30-60mph), and even snow accumulation on Mauna Kea (above 13,000ft). The timing is Thursday, Friday, and possibly early Saturday. The forecast radar paints a wet and stormy picture Thursday through early Saturday. Forecast wind gusts on Thursday look stiff. Notice the chances for rain and thunderstorms in the 7-day forecast for Hilo.
Feet of New Snow Hits the Pacific Northwest This Weekend
February is promising a large pattern change for most of the West - especially the Pacific Northwest. A powerful jet stream and trough of low pressure delivers 1-2 storm systems, colder air, and heavy rain/snow accumulation. Lower elevations cities like Seattle could see over two inches of rainfall. This new pattern replaces a large dome of high pressure. January has been drier than normal for most of the Pacific Northwest.
Weekend Snow Likely Across the Rockies
Snow returns to Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado this weekend as a cold front races south. Montana: 1/24 Wyoming: 1/24 Utah: Late 1/24-1/25 Colorado: Late 1/24-1/26 In Denver and across the I-25 Corridor snow starts late Friday and continues into Saturday morning. Snow lingers in the Central and Northern Mountains of Colorado on Saturday. Below you can track the timing with the Future Radar & Satellite. Moderate to heavy snow accumulation is likely at many ski resorts.
