Everyone is always complaining that no one makes any new movies anymore. Pop culture is seemingly just a continuous rehash of stuff that we used to have decades ago. Except there has to be a reason for that. Hollywood is capitalistic; they make things because they know they can make money with them. And even though we may complain, the simple truth is, often a major IP “bomb” makes more money than a smaller new property.

A few weeks ago, Mav was talking with friend of the show Joe Darowski about a new class Joe is teaching at Bringham Young University called “Technology & Narrative”. Joe asked if Mav had any suggestions for the course since it seemed up his alley. Well, as it turns out, Mav regularly teaches a course at the University of Pittsburgh called “Narrative & Technology” that quite naturally has many of the same themes in mind.

It’s that time of year again! If you’re a long time listener to the show then you probably know about PCA already. PCA is acronym for both the Popular Culture Association and their annual convention that in many ways is part of the genesis of the show. Last year all of the cohosts attended, but this year only Mav was able to go, so we wanted to bring you a taste of what we did there.
