Hoyas Stumble in Penalties in Big East Championship
It took more than 110 minutes of play to decide the winner in the men’s soccer Big East Championship match between Georgetown and Xavier. Unfortunately for the Hoyas (13-2-3, 6-1-1 Big East), it was the Musketeers (9-3-6, 4-1-3 Big East) who emerged victorious, 5-4 on penalties. Coming into the game ranked No. 3 in the country, Georgetown hoped to cap off a dominant season with a win in the Big East Championship — its first since 2021 — followed by a deep run in the NCAA tournament.
Hoyas Win Fourth Straight Big East Championship
Following a dominant, one-loss regular season, the Hoya’s succeeded in their initial postseason goal to capture the Big East tournament championship before making a deep run in the 2023 NCAA tournament. With their 2-0 win against the No. 17 Xavier Musketeers (14-3-4, 6-0-4 Big East) on Nov. 5 in Boyds, Md., the Hoyas (12-1-7, 6-0-4 Big East) secured their fourth consecutive Big East championship and their seventh in the past eight seasons.
Hoyas Hope to Rebuild Cohesive, Winning Culture
After six seasons under Head Coach Patrick Ewing (CAS ’85), the Georgetown University men’s basketball team enters a new era under Head Coach Ed Cooley, who will lead a transfer and walk-on-heavy team as he tries to re-instill a winning culture in the program. The Hoyas unofficially kicked off their season with the Blue vs. Gray Scrimmage at McDonough Arena on Oct. 27.
The Memphis Grizzlies Are Young And Hungry, And They Might Just Win It All
With its young, talented roster, the Memphis Grizzlies appear destined for an era of success in the near future. Impressive recent performances, in my opinion, suggest the Grizzlies could even hoist the title this season. The Phoenix Suns may be the nominal leaders of the Western Conference, but the game between the Grizzlies and the Suns on April 1 suggested that Memphis — not Phoenix — might be the team to beat in the West.
BALDARI | José Mourinho is About to Blow his Last Chance at Coaching
During A.S. Roma’s Italian Serie A match against Hellas Verona on Feb. 19, Roma head coach José Mourinho was sent off the field for complaining about a late-game call. Some may call his antics cheeky, but it was yet another reminder that the decorated Portuguese coach might be on the verge of squandering his last coaching opportunity. Flashy and combative, Mourinho was brought in to the Eternal City last summer to propel Roma back into the top four for the first time since the 2017-18 season.

BALDARI | Ironically, the Bucks are the NBA’s most underrated team Original
With the All-Star break rapidly approaching, the time has come to separate the contenders from the pretenders. While the storylines have focused on the Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers, the league’s strongest title challenger might also be its most underrated team — the Milwaukee Bucks. The chatter surrounding the Nets, Warriors, and Lakers is understandable, yet overstated.
BALDARI | For the Lakers To Be Elite, Russell Westbrook Needs To Acknowledge He Is Past His Prime
The much-hyped Los Angeles Lakers have so far been underwhelming this 2021-22 season. While the Lakers will certainly improve when the injured LeBron James returns, the team needs a transformation from Russell Westbrook if it wants to win a championship.
2021-22 Big East Power Rankings
Villanova — Last year, Villanova fell in the Sweet 16 to champion Baylor University. Star guard Collin Gillespie is now healthy and hoping to lead the Wildcats to a national championship in his final season. Despite losing forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Villanova picks up where it left off with four upperclassmen starters returning from 2020-21. UConn — UConn looks to build on a strong 2020-21 season.
BALDARI | Napoli, AC Milan Are Poised for a Close Serie A Title Race; This Time They Mean Business
Nine games into the Italian Serie A season, early returns suggest the battle for the Scudetto will be fought between only two teams: Napoli and AC Milan. The team has created a sizable 7-point gap between itself and the next closest competitor, Inter Milan. Napoli and Milan are both unbeaten, and their performances on the ninth match day only strengthened their claims as contenders for a title.
BALDARI | The Ben Simmons-76ers Trade Standoff Is Unwinnable for Both Parties
Ever since Ben Simmons announced he wanted to leave the Philadelphia 76ers, the team and the Australian guard have dug in their heels — a standoff that will leave both parties worse off. Simmons’ refusal to attend training camp is reminiscent of Anthony Davis’ and James Harden’s strategies, which earned them trades out of New Orleans and Houston in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
BALDARI | Forget About the Gold Cup. The USMNT Still Has a Long Way To Go.
The U.S. men’s national soccer team has enjoyed a prosperous summer, winning the inaugural CONCACAF Nations League in June and performing strongly at the Gold Cup in July. Yet these triumphs will mean nothing if the USMNT fails to build on them in the future. Promising outings at two continental competitions are positive strides for a team that infamously failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

After Denver Nuggets star guard Jamal Murray’s season-ending ACL tear April 12, fans were disappointed that some of the Western Conference’s biggest names — LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Murray — would be out for weeks, and for some, months. These unfortunate injuries will upset possibilities and inject drama into the Western Conference playoff picture.
BALDARI | The Verdict is In: Real Madrid Won Its Divorce with Cristiano Ronaldo
When Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo parted ways with Real Madrid in the summer of 2018, many believed “Los Blancos” would flounder without their talisman while Ronaldo would propel his new club, Juventus, to glory. The reality of the outcome, however, has proven more complicated. When a superstar player switches teams after several seasons and a handful of championships with one club, suspicions of a falling-out between the player and team immediately arise.
BALDARI | Don’t Be Fooled, the Brooklyn Nets Are an Experiment Bound to Go Wrong
The Brooklyn Nets’ acquisition of superstar guard James Harden from the Houston Rockets in a multi-team trade had some fans already writing the team in as the title favorites, but a closer look at the team’s defense, roster and chemistry reveals the Nets could be a gigantic bust. Already equipped with two perennial All-Stars, forward Kevin Durant and point guard Kyrie Irving, the Nets three picks, three draft swaps and three players of their own for Harden.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL | Georgetown Keeps It Close, But Not Close Enough Against Marquette

Cases and deaths are once again on the rise, preventing students from returning to campus.
BASKETBALL | NBA 2020 Mock Draft
1 – Minnesota Timberwolves, Anthony Edwards, Wing, University of Georgia Minnesota could take either LaMelo Ball or Edwards with this year’s top pick, but Edwards makes more sense for them. D’Angelo Russell has shown he thrives with the ball in his hands, and Minnesota is terrible on defense; Ball would move Russell to the off-guard spot and projects as a worse defender than Edwards.

However, it truly is a fitting matchup for these times, and it only took a pandemic for us to figure it out.
Contrary to Popular Belief, the NFL is Unlikely to Finish Its Season
The NFL kicked off Sept. 10, but one only needs to look at the League’s plan to conduct a season in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic to realize the NFL may be forced to halt the season well before crowning a Super Bowl champion. Whereas professional American sports leagues such as the NBA, WNBA and MLS have adopted bubbles of some kind, which have been successful in allowing games to be played while mitigating the spread of coronavirus amongst the athletes, the NFL has opted for no such bubble.
