1 INTRODUCTION The coexistence of closely related sympatric species has been a topic of recurring study since the mid-1900s (Bolnick & Fitzpatrick, 2007; MacArthur & Levins, 1964; Mayr, 1942). Most closely related sympatric species are thought to have evolved allopatrically, with ecological and or morphological differences arising while the populations were geographically isolated (Bolnick & Fitzpatrick, 2007).
