In 1936, Noël Coward wrote a cycle of nine one-act plays designed to be performed in rotating groups of three under the title Tonight at 8.30. Moving effortlessly between farce, satire and romance, the format proved hugely popular with audiences. Separated by an interval, with 1930s-style cocktails at the bar, adding to the sense of stepping back in time.
