Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women in the US. Median survival from metastatic breast cancer (MBC), defined as breast cancer found at sites distant from the breast and regional lymph nodes, has increased from 4 to 30% in the last two decades [1–4]. Therapeutic goals of MBC are prolonging life, improving quality of life and symptom palliation [5,6].
