INTRODUCTION In his lecture “Simulating Physics with Computers” (1), Richard Feynman famously argued that classical computing techniques alone are insufficient to simulate quantum physics. Since then, substantial progress has been made in formalizing this intuition by finding explicit examples of quantum systems whose classical simulation can be convincingly shown to require exponential resources. An example is Boson Sampling, first introduced by Aaronson and Arkhipov (2).
