How to Draw Office Dynamics
Drawing children is “more fun and interesting,” the cartoonist Maddie Dai says, “if you imbue them with a kind of world-weariness.” A lot of us are starting to feel a bit nostalgic for an office life that we didn’t know to treasure till it was gone—the communal pot of burnt coffee (but you didn’t have to make it!), the ladies’-room gossip (human interaction, albeit with awkward sound effects!), the smell of a fresh ream of printer paper (who owns a home printer?!).
How to Draw Vermin
A zoology major turned cartoonist on the pigeon mustache that has scientists baffled, and how to make a cartoon mouse look like a jaded Broadway star. “Shall I have a look through my rat/pigeon archives?” is not a question one is asked often in life, but when Will McPhail agreed to film this very handy tutorial on drawing vermin, such was his chipper query. I mean, the man owns a keychain that’s just a preserved pigeon foot.

‘Something to be grateful for’: UW Poetry Club makes a smooth transition online
Courtesy of Samantha Seaver Online operations have proven to be a difficult transition for classes and RSOs; there is a disconnect in seeing the pixelated faces and hearing the distorted voices of classmates and professors with less than stellar internet connection. The UW Poetry Club, however, is making do with the changes and continues to hold weekly meetings over Zoom. The club has been a space for members to come and connect with friends and celebrate their passion for poetry together.
Billions in federal funding on the line in upcoming census
Census field operations have been suspended until April 1 to slow the spread of the coronavirus, the Census Bureau announced last week. Should any additional adjustments need to be made, the Census Bureau will communicate these changes broadly and promptly," the Bureau said in a press release.
Our rights, our fight
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. ” – James Madison. When James Madison wrote this segment of the First Amendment, he meant that this amendment protects those who live in the United States the freedom of religion. According to the quote, this means that the government can’t force anyone to believe in a particular religion, and lets citizens practice whatever religion they desire.
10 More BIG Data Movie Scenes
I loved Nic Smith ‘s recent post on Top 10 BIG Data Movie Scenes and was going to bombard him with other movie scenes. But instead of cluttering his comments with embedded videos, I decided to pull them into a blog post. Sorry to blatantly steal your idea Nic, but it was just too good! I’m sure there are other fun movie examples out there. Let’s hear ’em. 10. Rain Man – Cruise and Hoffman go to Vegas. 9. War Games – The big computer plays lots of Tic-Tac-Toe and stops WWIII 8.
Five #NFL Draft Picks That Could Have Used #SAP
With SAP’s recent announcement of our new SAP Scouting Solution for NFL (American) football, I thought it would be fun to look back on some dubious NFL draft picks that could have been avoided with the benefit of cloud, analytics and in-memory technologies. This is just a fun list, but you can imagine how the new technology can help teams evaluate players more effectively and efficiently. For sports geeks like myself, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
7 Simple Ways to Share Your #SAPTechEd Experience

And with mobile devices making it so easy to capture photos and videos, attendees can create and share valuable content almost instantly.
Hailee Steinfeld on ‘Haiz,’ Hair Tricks & Teachings from Taylor Swift
In Taylor Swift’s megawatt Bad Blood video, Hailee Steinfeld appears as The Trinity, a superhero (super heroine?) who’s literally three girls in one. But though the 18-year-old is a singular entity IRL, she’s not that different from her VMA alter ego: In the past year, Steinfeld has become not just a movie star, but a fashion maven and a pop music princess, too.

So what’s a Vogue regular doing in $49 flannel (besides posing the hell out of it)? She’s making a smart—if unexpected—move for her career.
Vanity Fair’s 2015 Best-Dressed List: Too Many Royals, Too Few Rihannas
Expecting Vanity Fair’s International Best-Dressed List to suddenly prize edgy over safe is like expecting your Libertarian uncle to suddenly make sense over Christmas dinner. Yes, it’s futile, but our stupid hope still springs eternal.

Will Indie Fashion Boutiques Go the Way of the Indie Bookstore?
A peek inside one of Seattle’s best boutiques, Totokaelo. I like to shop. On a recent vacation to Portland, Ore., I spent at least an hour a day visiting the city’s most interesting storefronts, of which there are a lot. In the northwest part of the city, we stopped by Schoolhouse Electric & Supply, a mecca for nerdy lighting and contemporary furniture that looks vintage.

On Realizing Your Accountant Dad Is Your Style Icon
The author with his father. This was totally unplanned—seriously. My father has been an accountant for over twenty-five years. His place of business, Gary L. Black & Associates PC is in a sleepy office building in a suburb of Atlanta, the city in which he was born and raised. It’s an extremely laid back environment, with few employees, which matches his personality. My dad cares very little (read: not at all) about clothing.

Are Grills Back? One Writer Takes Mouth Jewelry for a Spin
I am a self-proclaimed jewelry fiend. Sparkles? Always. Delicate gold bands? Yes please! Chunky statement necklaces? Check! Once, I even got an additional ear piercing just so that I could wear a single earring I found in my grandmother’s jewelry box. I’ve experimented with most jewelry trends. There were toe rings and tattoo chokers in the ‘90s. Long beaded necklaces and big hoops in the aughts. And, most recently, midi rings and the statement earring.

Meet Fashion's New Darling: Surfer & Menswear Designer Thaddeus O’Neil
Now O’Neil’s endless summers involve preparing for Fashion Week. January’s was his second, after which he drew hosannas from the likes of Vogue , GQ , and Urbandaddy . That’s partly because we’re riding the crest of the wave of “athleisure,” but O’Neil’s line intrigues because the worldly intellectual — or at least travel Instagrammer — mashes up against the oblivious beach bum in a way that somehow works without seeming like an exercise.

Misty Copeland on Ballet, Body Shaming, and Dancing on Tour With Prince
Something to aspire to: the way Misty Copeland looks in front of a mirror. The soloist for the American Ballet Theatre is breathtakingly lovely, of course, with a tawny complexion, the kind of muscular body that makes it clear she’s a professional athlete, and a genuine smile that dispenses with any stereotypes about ballerinas being chilly. But what’s worth emulating is that she’s totally comfortable with her own reflection. She isn’t overly absorbed by it, or critical of or skittish about it.

Here’s Karl Lagerfeld’s Custom $25K Apple Watch

Good thing his gloves are fingerless.
Culottes? Yes. Crop Tops? No. What to Wear to the Office.
Last Sunday’s final-season premiere of Mad Men wasn’t the first episode with a tense Peggy/Joan elevator scene touching on sexism—but it still was a doozy. The two had just come out of a pitch meeting—for Topaz pantyhose, to rival 1969’s runaway hit L'eggs that came in a plastic eggshell—where three chauvinist-pig male execs had made leering remarks to Joan, humiliating and infuriating her. She says as much in the elevator after to a buttoned-up Peggy, who replies, “You can’t have it both ways.

If Your Guy Does These 5 Things, You're Being Manipulated
The worst part of being manipulated in a relationship is that quite often you don’t even know it’s happening. Scary, right? Here’s a few biggies to look out for to make sure it’s not happening to you: 1. He makes you feel guilty … for everything. Manipulation always start with guilt.
