No Minister Jones, pharmacists are not physicians
I’m a retired Radiation Oncologist who taught courses in undergraduate medical school for more than a decade. These courses were essentially the principles of “assessment.” At Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, reviewing a patient’s medical history, interviewing patients and physical examination skills are taught in year-long courses over the first two years of medical school. These skills are further refined in clinical rotations, and later during residency training.
Opinion: What a president owes us
For 45 years, I have studied and taught an array of students about the world’s great religions. While the differences in beliefs and practices are many, there is one ethical affirmation that they all share: The true character of a people is revealed in its treatment of its most vulnerable members. This lofty notion became more than an abstraction when the time came to find a nursing facility for my father. Alzheimer’s had relentlessly hollowed him out.

A Sacred Argument by Christopher M. Leighton | Review | Spirituality & Practice
This is an instance when the author of a book is uniquely qualified to write it: Christopher Leighton is the retired founding director of the Institute for Islamic, Christian, Jewish Studies (ICJS) in Baltimore, Maryland, a position he held for 33 years. The Baltimore Institute has been a leading institution in the United States for Jewish-Christian relations for a half-century.

“What remains to be seen is whether our religious communities can embolden us to step outside our respective sanctuaries and engage religious and political strangers face-to-face in sacred argument. In this broader public expanse we discover who we and our communities really are. We will step on each other’s toes and make offensive blunders.

Opinion: How to begin the hard work of disagreeing better?
A priest, a rabbi and an imam walked into a room, but it was no joke. Invited into dialogue to study a sacred story, they soon discovered they had very different understandings. The patriarch Abraham who imagined would bring them together had somehow pushed them into opposing camps. Experts in scriptural interpretation, each found validation for his position in his own tradition.
Guest column: Now not the time to cut Ontario's public health funding
• • Article content By: Christopher Leighton COVID-19 is not another cold — but sure, let’s cut public health funding. Article content Here we are in December 2023, just four months shy of four years with COVID-19 on the scene. Is this the pandemic that never ends? If public health is not there to protect the vulnerable, then why bother?
When did neglect and ignorance become the prevailing sentiment of government? Recently, Barrie, Ont., considered a bylaw that would have made it an offence to provide water and food to homeless people on city property. Though overwhelming opposition was successful in quashing the proposal, how did it even get to that point? I was immediately brought back to my review of the Ontario COVID-19 public health policy in 2022.

Leopoldstadt grapples with the 86-year-old playwright’s Jewish roots and his fear about the direction of our society.
In Leopoldstadt, Tom Stoppard gets personal

Love and fear become entangled during COVID-19 pandemic
George Danby | BDN George Danby | BDN By Christopher Leighton, Opinion guest column • April 7, 2020 8:57 am As the reality of the pandemic redefines our way of life, fear is seizing our imaginations and forcing the question: How do we handle the terror? During times of radical peril, we naturally turn to our leaders for practical instruction and moral guidance.
Commentary: Samoset Monument Project

We noted that the Samoset monument would soon disappear under a thicket of vines and dead pine trees. The rescue of the monument required an intervention.
