1 Introduction Photoelectrochemical (PEC) devices such as dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and dye-sensitized photoelectrochemical synthesis cells (DSPECs) often involve the attachment of molecular photosensitizers onto nanostructured semiconductor metal oxide (MOx) supports [1-3]. In PEC devices, a photosensitizer anchored to the photoanode is excited by sunlight, which generates photoexcited electrons leading to injection of the electron into the MOx conduction band.
