Reading High School graduate Tillman Sims began TLC Fore Reading five years ago with the goal of shaping the minds of young men and women from all walks of life. Using a shared interest in golf as a starting point, Sims’ program introduces innercity students to a larger world outside their neighborhoods. “I was kind of just doing golf tournaments, golf events, and golf leagues here and there,” Sims said.

I was pleased to see Skip McMahon’s letter to the editor as I have been a proponent of extending the hours of the gondola for several years. I have attended Breckenridge Town Council meetings to suggest operating the gondola past 5 p.m. on the peak days during the holidays and even cited Telluride as the example of what can be done. The response from the council was the town does not operate the gondola as it is owned and operated by Vail Resorts.

On a recent Saturday morning in Germantown, community members gathered with WHYY to talk. But instead of the press interviewing local residents, local residents had a chance to ask the media questions. Convened by the Germantown Info Hub and Temple University graduate students, the Behind the Headlines event at The People’s Education Center was arranged to foster a two-way conversation, not about a story being written but one that already had been.
