Dugout of History 6: Candlestick Park
Chrystal and Colleen bring you another episode of Dugout of History, with tales of the San Francisco ballpark that was trouble from the very beginning, from a Teamsters strike to heated seats that never were, and through to Dianne Feinstein’s failed dome plan and the World Series earthquake. It’s not just tales of woe and folly, there were plenty of highlights… just, not a whole lot for the Giants during their time there — San Francisco didn’t win a World Series until moving to McCovey Cove.
Mariners sink themselves for 5-4 White Sox win
As a general rule, going brain-dead in the 10th inning isn’t a competent strategy. But the White Sox being the White Sox, it was the best plan today and ended Seattle’s eight-game winning streak. The contest went into overtime, a generally undesired outcome in heat indexes nearing 120, because the Seattle Mariners scored three in the top of the ninth to take a 4-3 lead, then left the bases loaded, part of the 14 runners they stranded on the day.

Chicago White Sox blank Cleveland Guardians, 3-0
Five pitchers gone from the roster in the past few days? Never mind. The ones left will take care of things. Mainly taking care of things was Touki Toussaint, who tossed five innings of three-hit, one-walk, shutout ball, with one of his 83 pitches being the one that was the key to victory.
Pod At The Park: Chrystal O'Keefe
You may notice that the cover art for this episode is a picture of Jesse and Chrystal at the Mets-White Sox game, while the podcast is from the Yankees-Royals game. Simple explanation for that: one person, who regularly hosts this show, messed up the recording at the Mets game, and so joined Chrystal as she wrapped up her New York visit in the Bronx. It was fun.
Chicago White Sox crushed by Atlanta Braves, 9-0
Let’s see. How to frame this? How about: walk, HBP, walk, and then this little 430-footer: That’s about all you really need to know. Losing to the Braves isn’t exactly embarrassing, though losing this badly certainly is. The bad news long-term is that it took Michael Kopech, fresh off of the IL, 38 pitches (only 14 of them strikes) to get through two-thirds of an inning.

In the spirit of the opening of this episode, the Rockies are trailing 23-0 in the fifth inning of a game as these words are written. By the time you read this, you may or may not know the final score. That’s not important. Whats important is that you stay away from , the Astros’ mascot, who is a creep.
The Mental Gymnastics for Female Sports Fans
Content warning: Discussion and photos of sexual assault and domestic violence By Chrystal O’Keefe This is not my first time writing about this topic. I’ve covered sexual assault and domestic violence within baseball ad nauseam. Being a woman and sports fan can be exhausting, because it’s clear the players or organizations don’t care about you.
Willets Pod 12: The Beef In Our Stars
Editor’s note: During the episode, we talked about Chrystal’s ode to dad bods post, which had yet to run at the time of recording. We decided to just put it here instead of as a separate post, because why make things more complicated than they need to be? We already have an entire podcast devoted to doing that. Also, here’s the time Creed played Thanksgiving for some reason. You wouldn’t see Nickelback doing that, what with the being Canadian and with Chad Kroeger being too busy having all that sex.
Baseball gets caught looking
Supreme disrespect is MLB not even pretending to care By Chrystal O’Keefe On June 24, Roe vs. Wade was overturned. It will now be up to states to decide on abortion bans, restrictions, etc. MLB has been silent on the Dobbs decision, which dropped just a day after teams lauded Title IX on the 50th anniversary. The silence from MLB is deafening. There will always be politics in baseball. We stand for the anthem1, removing our hats with a hand over our hearts.
