1. Introduction Ductile iron (DI), also known as nodular graphite cast iron, is a type of cast iron with a graphite-rich microstructure. It was first developed by the British Cast Iron Research Association (BCIRA) in 1948. Because of its excellent castability, machinability, and mechanical properties, as well as its low cost, DI has been widely used in various industrial products, including pipes, machine tools, and automotive parts [1,2].
