Methods and analysis Patients and the public were not involved in the formulation of the research questions, the study design or the conduct of the study. This study will be implemented as a randomised controlled trial. The participants will be split into two groups: (a) an intervention group that will engage in preoperative walking exercise for a duration of 3–4 weeks alongside standard perioperative care and (b) a control group that will solely receive standard perioperative care.
