What was your first job as a journalist?
I was asked to write features for a ski magazine. I've never been skiing!
Have you ever used a typewriter?
No. Although I wish I had.
How is social media changing news?
News is now instant and if you're not on a story within minutes of it breaking, you're in the chasing pack.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
I'm a little embarrassed to say that it's Tin Tin :)
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It's more than a simple reporting of the facts. It's about finding the story within the story.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
Honestly can't remember. I'm rarely on Twitter and pay very little attention to hashtags on LI.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email or through LinkedIn. I don't like phone calls or Skype.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Hemingway, Google Docs

LinkedIn
Who do you wish followed you?
It doesn't bother me who follows me. Once my stories are read by the right people.
Why did you become a journalist?
I'm a copywriter and wrote some news stories in my career. I loved the excitement of finding a story before anyone else did.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Nope.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I enjoyed writing about the data leak on Olybet's Lithuanian site. I had to sift through Lithuanian reports to find the story.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't regurgitate what's already out there. Find the story within the story that no one is reporting on.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Any time is good because I only check my inboxes at two set times each day.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
Again none are standout. Most pitches are just letting me know about an industry merger or upcoming launch.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Honestly, I haven't had many very bad ones at all. Some are obviously promotional but none were standout bad.
What's your favorite drink?
Mango Bubble Tea
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Reading a book, on my bike, or playing dice with my kids. I like being outside.

ERG. GamblingInsider.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That all I write about is poker and slot machines.
