I'm 49. Yes.
How is social media changing news?
the - unsubstantiated soundbites, the + people get away with less and it travels fast. It paints a psychological portrait of those using it

Don't know that many - maybe Murphy Brown?
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Instead of asking questions you want answered allow the true answers to find you. Listen deeply, address the human 1st the issue 2nd
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
Hm... not something I pay much attention to. will make a point of writing one soon
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email a paragraph with the why and an attachment with the background.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Google docs. Twisted wave, Voice memos. Zoom. Notebook.
What's your favorite social network?
still facebook because i use it for friends and family - I use an alias on twitter

I'd like to answer that another day...
Why did you become a journalist?
I've always loved human connection and the idea that there are so many sides to every story - an open mind is essential to a great story
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Ha! In Castelo Branco Portugal -- if my highschool had a paper - I didn't know about it. I was busy being the "baddest" kid in school.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
The next one!
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
It takes resolve, courage, and determination to enter a field that is often not glamorous nor terribly well paid - make sure it's what u love

I'm an easy sell. It's usually about music so I either like the artist or want to support the venue or the arts -

tons of misspelled slapped together press releases not worth detailing

Coffee. Water. Jameson.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Often it's fun to compare the same storyline coming from different publications to see how each approach it - my answer can change daily
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Sometimes only famous musicians have the PR power to pitch - but writers take pitches from everyone - look for the freelancers
