TAPinto.net was founded in October, 2008 by Michael and Lauryn Shapiro, who sought to provide their town’s residents with an all-online, objective, independent, daily local newspaper. Today, TAPinto covers more than 100 towns in New Jersey, New York, and Florida, and is accredited by the New Jersey Press Association.

Jefferson Town Council Appoints New Member
JEFFERSON, NJ - The Jefferson Town Council voted unanimously to appoint Yvonne Ioffredo to fill the empty council seat at its August 17 special meeting. Former Councilman Dan Schultz resigned in July, leaving it up to the Township Republican Committee and the Town Council to find a replacement. “No not at all,” Ioffredo told TAPinto Jefferson when asked if she expected to win.
Pierce Street Closure as Franklin Township Road Resurfacing Work Expands
SOMERSET, NJ — Franklin Township's summer road resurfacing program will bring new construction and traffic impacts to several areas this week, beginning with a planned closure of Pierce Street Tuesday and additional work scheduled on Coppermine Road and the Willow Avenue area. The township announced that Pierce Street will be closed from Davidson Avenue to Cedar Grove Lane from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, and Wednesday, Aug. 19, for milling and paving.
Sayreville Council Approves Settlement to Resolve Long-Running School Bus Depot Dispute
SAYREVILLE, NJ — The Borough Council has approved a settlement agreement with the Sayreville Board of Education that resolves a years-long legal dispute over where the school district will build a permanent bus depot. The governing body approved the settlement July 20, according to Resolution 2026-217. The measure was included in the borough's Aug. 17 resolution package and formally memorializes the July 20 vote.

MONMOUTH COUNTY — The Commissioner Board has recognized Monmouth County as a Stroke Smart Community, an initiative designed to increase awareness about stroke prevention, warning signs and the importance of getting emergency medical help quickly. The proclamation was presented to representatives from CentraState Medical Center in Freehold Township during the Commissioners’ Workshop Meeting on Aug. 13.
Rensselaer County and Troy Partnering on 2026 Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Events
BRUNSWICK - Rensselaer County and the City of Troy are partnering on an inter-county Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) disposal program for 2026. The program consists of four events providing residents of the participating municipalities the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous materials not accepted through normal garbage collection service. The next event will be Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Town of Brunswick Town Hall at 336 Town Office Road in Brunswick.
