3. Evolution of Global Events The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 infection (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus) in China at the end of 2019 seemed initially to affect no one else but China. On 31 December 2019, the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission in Hubei Province, China, reported a cluster of patients (including seven very severe cases) with a new form of pneumonia of unknown origin [4]. Worldwide, people watched, somewhat detached, thinking, “It won’t happen to us”.
