Penn State employs more than 2,700 graduate research assistants (RAs) who are critical for the day-to-day operations of the university’s extensive research enterprise. We run clinical trials, analyze data, fix equipment, coordinate schedules, train undergraduate students and travel to disseminate research — to name just some of our responsibilities. We often work long and erratic hours beyond the expectations outlined in our contracts, with many supervisors expecting us to remain available 24/7.
