The trailblazing banker credited with turning around TCF Financial was remembered Wednesday as a "maverick" and forceful leader in both the banking world and Minnesota politics. Bill Cooper, 73, who helmed the Wayzata-based company for almost 30 years, died on Tuesday. Cooper came from a working-class family in Detroit, according to a press release from TCF.
