This project aimed to develop a welfare assessment tool for elephants managed in non-zoological settings, specifically those at tourist camps in Asia. While many Western zoos are governed by accredited organizations and follow strict standards and guidelines, including requirements for routine welfare assessments (e.g., AZA, EAZA, BIAZA, WAZA, ZAA), such oversight is absent for Asian tourist camps (Bansiddhi et al., 2020).
