Oil futures edged higher during the market open on June 28, following fresh attacks by both Iran and the US. NYMEX August WTI opened $1.27/barrel higher at $70.50/b, and ICE August Brent opened up $1.15/b at $73.14/b. NYMEX July RBOB opened 2.27 cents/gallon higher at $2.9798/gal while July ULSD climbed 16.14 cents/gal to $3.2636/gal. According to media reports, Iran targeted Bahrain and Kuwait with missiles on June 28, following US airstrikes against Iran.

Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz rose to 78 ships June 24, the highest since the war began in late February, with 42% of these vessels using a route managed by Oman and the International Maritime Organization, S&P Global Commodities at Sea(opens in a new tab) said in a June 25 report. The safe corridor for transits close to the Omani coast was used by 33 ships, although some ships continued to sail closer to Iran, CAS said in the report. A total of 92 ships were recorded Feb.

Trump orders DOJ to look into ‘big oil’ over high US gasoline prices

US President Donald Trump has ordered the Department of Justice to "start looking into" why oil companies are not lowering pump prices despite lower crude feedstock costs. "Gasoline prices better start going down a lot faster than what I'm seeing," Trump said on his social media Truth Social June 24. Trump said crude prices were "dropping like a rock," but that oil companies "are not dropping their price at the pump commensurate." He added that US consumers were being "gouged".
