Carlos Gonzalez’s Biography

I am a mechanical engineer that loves to be creative.

As of March 2019, I began my role as Special Projects Manager at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. My role in the editorial team will span several tasks including writing engineering content, developing events, engineering education, and membership outreach programs.

In 2015 I started working as a Technology Editor for "Machine Design". In 2018, I became the Content Director of Machine Design and Hydraulics & Pneumatics magazine. I managed the editorial teams, conducted research, and wrote about current engineering topics, product trends, and news impacting mechanical engineers. Topics included robotics, alternative energy, aerospace, and STEM education. Some of my publications can be seen below.

From 2007 to 2014, I worked at Sikorsky Aircraft as a mechanical design engineer. I worked on the UH-60M Blackhawk, S76D, and the Navy's CH-53K Heavy Lift in the flight controls department. I was involved in initial product design, development of systems, contract and supplier negotiations, analysis and implementation of parts and installations, qualification of aircraft hardware, and project management to ensure aircraft light-off.

I graduated in 2010 with a master's in mechanical engineering from Columbia University and obtained an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering in 2007 from Manhattan College.

I also play and compose music part-time; mostly jazz and Latin music.
I play the following instruments:
- guitar
- mandolin
- bass
- trumpet
- Latin percussion
