The phosphorus fertilizer effect of biochar from municipal sewage sludge
ABSTRACT Phosphate is an essential, growth-limiting plant nutrient that is regularly applied as fertilizer. Fertilizers from mined rock phosphate are getting more expensive as global phosphate reserves are limited and progressively exhausted. Phosphorus from sewage sludge offers huge potential for replacing manufactured phosphate fertilizer. The P fertilizer potential of biochars from the pyrolysis of sewage sludge has not yet been investigated in field experiments on Central European soils.

Peat Formation in Rewetted Fens as Reflected by Saturated n-Alkyl Acid Concentrations and Patterns
1. Introduction The earth’s surface is covered by about 6–7% wetlands, of which 50 to 70% are peatlands, and they store about 50% of the global soil carbon (C) stocks [1,2,3,4,5,6]. The reductive conditions of peatlands slow down the mineralization of vegetation residues and soil organic matter (SOM), resulting in substantial C-stock accumulation.
Dissolved organic matter concentration, molecular composition, and functional groups in contrasting management practices of peatlands
Abstract About 91,300 ha of peatlands has been rewetted in western Europe since the mid-1990s. Still, it is unknown how long-term rewetting alters the dissolved organic matter (DOM) concentration, molecular composition, and functional groups. We examined these DOM characteristics in three peatland types subjected to 47- to 231-yr drainage and 18- to 24-yr rewetting to address this knowledge gap.
