The Brief Cook County Crime Stoppers announced a $1,000 reward Friday for information leading to an arrest in the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Lilly Bova, whose death remains under investigation. The reward comes two days after Cook County prosecutors said they lacked sufficient evidence to file criminal charges, citing an inability to meet the burden of proof.

Oak Brook teen accused in fatal Downers Grove crash to remain in custody

The Brief An Oak Brook teen charged with two counts of reckless homicide will remain in custody after a DuPage County judge reviewed new evidence presented Tuesday, prosecutors said. Prosecutors allege Francesco Rendina, 18, was speeding and driving recklessly before his BMW SUV crashed into another vehicle March 27 in Downers Grove. Authorities said he was traveling 104 mph five seconds before the crash and 89 mph in a 40 mph zone at impact.

South Elgin man injured officer, threatened to shoot during standoff, police say

The Brief A 56-year-old South Elgin man, Wasfi Farooqui, was arrested after police said he resisted arrest, injured an officer and barricaded himself inside a home on Oakwood Lane on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities said Farooqui, who had multiple felony warrants and was on pretrial release, threatened to shoot officers during the standoff before Kane County SWAT took him into custody without incident.
