Abstract Emotion processing engages multiple large-scale brain networks. However, prior investigations relying on a priori, contrast-based models of brain activity obscure networks’ distinct temporal dynamics and roles in task performance. Here, we performed tensor independent component analysis to identify and track concurrent brain processes, including those with non-canonical dynamics, during the emotional face matching task (EFMT) in healthy young adults (n = 413; n = 416 replication).

Altered brain activation in response to reward and punishment has been implicated in multiple forms of psychopathology, including internalizing disorders. Thus, incentive processing functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) paradigms are included in multiple large scale data sets, including the Human Connectome Project (HCP). We leveraged these data to investigate the reproducibility of task-evoked brain network states associated with reward processing that may influence mental health.

Chronic alcohol use disorder (AUD) causes structural alterations in the gray matter. Using normative models of age-normed reference values, we investigate how cortical thickness (CT) of large-scale brain networks correlates with cognitive-psychiatric symptoms in AUD patients.
