This past Christmas, Tammy Lee received a large box of rust-covered scrap metal from her granddaughter. “How many women get a box of rusty junk and think it is super cool?” Tammy asks with a laugh. To her, the box wasn’t full of junk. It was full of art supplies. Tammy, owner of Junkyard Art by Tam-I-Am, takes old hand tools, farm implement parts and other discarded metal items and turns them into sculptures. Pieces include tractors, snails, dancers, owls and so much more – all made of scrap metal.

Located just three blocks from the Illinois River in Havana’s historic downtown, Babe’s on Plum welcomes locals, visitors and boaters alike to enjoy its upscale bar food. According to Kelli Schaeffer, who owns the restaurant with her husband Todd, the restaurant originally opened in 1997 at a different location as a bar called Babe’s, owned by Todd’s mother. The bar later moved to its current location on Plum Street and became a bar and grill when food was added to the menu.

It all started when Adele Moore and then husband Richard Evans spotted an injured cottontail rabbit in the middle of the road in 1972. They took the rabbit to a local veterinarian, who stitched it up and sent it back home with them. In their care, the rabbit quickly recovered, and they released it back into the wild where it belonged.
