1 INTRODUCTION The risks posed by fentanyl prevalence in the illicit drug market have continued to grow over the last decade, with nearly 80 000 drug-induced deaths from synthetic opioids other than methadone (primarily fentanyl) reported in 2021 alone.1-4 The issue has been compounded by the co-occurrence of other illicit drugs (e.g., xylazine, psychostimulants, benzodiazepines) and the emergence of new synthetic fentanyl analogues.
