Draft capital is a significant input to consider when targeting a late-round rookie wide receiver in fantasy football drafts. Hit rates and fantasy production drop sharply for wide receivers drafted beyond Day 1. From 2010 to 2025, Day 1 rookie wide receivers averaged 142.7 fantasy points (PPR), 10.3 PPR/G, and were, on average, 22 years old. Rookie receivers drafted on Day 2 averaged 89.1 fantasy…...

Five Personal Lessons From the 2026 Fantasy Baseball Season
Sep 24, 2026; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Chicago Cubs right fielder Seiya Suzuki Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-Imagn Images I’ve written a couple of late-season articles on overperformers and underperformers based on projected versus earned value. As someone who spends plenty of time examining pitchers, my fantasy teams admittedly struggled in pitching points. My team’s pitching ratios exploded due to blowup outings from Jack Flaherty, Luis Castillo, Logan Webb, and others.

Sokolowski-Imagn Images We’re following up on an earlier article about hitters who are outperforming their projected value this season. But there’s also the other side of that coin: 19 hitters among the top 200 picks who are underperforming their projected value by at least $20. Unsurprisingly, the hitters drafted within the top 50 picks who were injured or struggled have been the biggest busts.

Meanwhile, four hitters went undrafted or were past pick 400: Jake Bauers, Jake McCarthy, Jordan Walker, and Liam Hicks. We want to hit on these breakout hitters in the draft or acquire them during the season. These are the waiver pickups that turn into regular starters on our fantasy squads.

Seven Hitters Contributing Fantasy Value in Deeper Leagues: Can it Continue?
Mandatory Credit: Denny Medley-Imagn Images At this point in the season, it’s about playing time and finding hitters that can produce in specific categories. Here’s a follow-up to a previous article on surprising starting pitchers who have been performing well since August. Today, it’s the hitter version, with seven players contributing in deeper leagues. We used a roster percentage cutoff of 50% or lower in Online Championships, with the exception of one catcher-eligible player.
Five Surprising Successful Pitchers Since August: How Are They Doing It?
Mandatory Credit: Jim Cowsert-Imagn Images When examining leaderboards over a small sample (say, the last two weeks or maybe a month), you find a mixture of high-end players and surprising ones. If you are looking for late-season adds, those high-end arms aren’t likely available, but what about some of the unexpected names? We’ll look at players rostered in less than 80% in Online Championships to identify and examine pitchers in these deeper, 12-team leagues.

Five Starting Pitchers Adjusting Their Pitch Mix in July and August
Credit: William Purnell-Imagn Images One way to identify potential pitch mix changes is to compare monthly fastball (four-seamer and sinker) usage splits to season-long averages. That helps identify which pitchers have been increasing or decreasing their fastball usage, typically in favor of other offerings. The chart below shows the pitchers who averaged a lower fastball usage in July and August compared to their season-long average by 5 or more percentage points.

NFL - FANTASY FOOTBALL
With NFL training camps ramping up, we’ll want to keep tabs on the running backs in these crowded or small-gap backfields for fantasy football purposes. In the past, we’ve covered several small-gap backfields to identify value in these murky situations. The idea comes from Jack Miller’s research on the win and hit rates for big or small gap backs, and from similar research by Charlie Kleinheksel before that. First, let’s define our terms:…...

Whenever we find pitchers performing well or struggling, the first question should be why. Often, breakout performances involve a mixture of luck and skill.
