Abstract Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for 74% of all deaths globally. The growing health inequities related to NCDs stem from social determinants of health (SDOH). Targeting SDOH could reduce NCDs substantially. To achieve this, implementing complex health promotion and prevention programmes in schools, including but not limited to developing life skills, seems paramount. However, the evaluation of such endeavours remains critical but challenging.

Abstract The general objective of this study was to evaluate the first year of Explo’Santé, a health education program grounded in life skills (LS) for French primary school students, by assessing its impact on LS and related dimensions (self-efficacy (SE), life satisfaction (LSa), and health literacy (HL)). It also analyzed variations according to gender, class, school, district, and socioeconomic context. 528 fourth-graders were surveyed before and after the intervention, and post-summer break.
