Introduction A planetary wave (PW) is an oscillation resulting from a meridional disturbance in the balance between the Coriolis force and the pressure gradient force. Our study focuses on the wave geometries of PWs with low zonal wavenumbers (≤6). As global-scale waves, their tilt and amplitude impact the wave geometries present in the background flow and how subsequent PWs will propagate.
