Solar Panels Are Three Times More Carbon-Intensive Than IPCC Claims
Solar Panels Are Three Times More Carbon-Intensive Than IPCC Claims Authored by C. P. Colum and Lea Booth via Public, This investigation was done in collaboration with Environmental Progress and The Blind Spot Last August, in an amalgamation of “The Green New Deal” meets “Build Back Better,” President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act gifted the renewables industry with billions of dollars worth of taxpayer-funded subsidies.
Solar Panels Are Three Times More Carbon-Intensive Than IPCC Claims
It is actually much worse than that. Adding fluctuating solar and wind to the electrical grid makes it much less efficient at producing electricity. The electrical grid runs at maximum efficiency when most generation is high efficiency, high capital cost baseload power Nuclear, Hydro, high cost CCGT not low cost OCGT, high cost supercritical coal not low cost conventional coal. Wind & solar favor low cost, fuel guzzling OCGT & diesel generation to mirror the wind & solar variation.

Kara Komarni - creating good mental health habits for the metaverse generation
The article first ran on 14th March 2022 in CityAM.com Kara Komarni has worked in tech for ten years. This decade is important not only in her career but in her personal life. But first let us look at her tech career before the traumatic impact that changed the course of her purpose. Komarni did not only work in tech, she worked in one of the bleeding edges of tech – Virtual Reality (VR).

Building-blocks of the future, or a chain of fools?
Above: Exposed Order by Eugene Wood, 2016 Blockchain has been hailed as a revolutionary technology that will dramatically transform society for the better; a cryptographic near-panacea that addresses inequality, disenfranchisement and the many ills of centralised systems—financial and otherwise. Within a decade or so, the best-known blockchain product, cryptocurrency, has seen values rocket and crash repeatedly. The spectres of fraud and crime are never far from crypto’s door.
By pumping more oil, can Venezuela hope for a better future?
Join us now at SCALED, as we again cast an eye across the Atlantic and over the last century, this time to watch the epic rise and spectacular fall of one of Latin-America’s most impressive industries and valuable resources: Venezuelan oil. And a rip-roaring tale it is! A Caribbean setting, empires at war, would-be pirates on makeshift skiffs attacking oil platforms… It’s that old Latino chestnut: localised corruption, gangsterism and misgovernment. But, wait, who’s that swaggering into view?
Court gives Spanish region 10 days to hand over secret agreements between EU & pharma: why and how?
In what you might call a turn up for the law books, the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (Tribunal Superior de Justicia de las Islas Baleares, TSJB) has given the government of the Spanish autonomous community 10 days to hand over, amongst other documents, a copy of contracts signed with pharmaceutical companies Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna and Janssen for covid vaccines.
Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3 “OMA3™” to jointly address interoperability challenges of the industry
The leading blockchain-based platforms for the metaverse and Web3 Alien Worlds, Animoca Brands, Dapper Labs, Decentraland, Decentral Games, SPACE, Superworld, The Sandbox, Upland, Voxels, and Wivity have formed the Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3 (short: “OMA3”) to address interoperability challenges by proposing standards and by facilitating collaboration between various stakeholders of Web3 and other industries.
Reduce crypto tax in an increasingly regulated market
Let's take a closer look at how to reduce our crypto tax in an increasingly regulated market. In spite of the recent crash, cryptocurrency remains a popular asset across the world. It’s not hard to see why: although there is the risk of substantial losses, many coin traders, both amateur and professional, have enjoyed eye-popping returns.

If green Uruguay's thriving, why not pay attention?
The SCALED adventure began with treatments of the West’s food and energy supply grumbles. Once-flush nations are going somewhat short. Who could make gains? From across the Atlantic a tiny Latin-American country has caught our attention. It’s verdant, low-crime and seemingly thriving. There being only 3.5 million of them, the nation is an unknown quantity to many, particularly non-Spanish speakers. We’re talking about Uruguay.
Getting down to metabusiness
A new home for global commerce is under construction—and it’s virtual. Oft-hyped, virtual reality (VR) was at a low ebb until Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement last October: Facebook would be renamed Meta, Inc. after ‘the Metaverse’, a term coined by sci-fi author Neal Stephenson for cyberspace. Now the buzz is back and buzzier than ever. For some commentators it’s still premature. But there are strong signs that the metaverse is a serious business, and one which will soon require regulation.
Lockdown Books - in CityAM
The aftermath of the global financial crash of 2008 uncovered some unpalatable facts. First, it showed how national governments were hellbent on bailing out the private banks with public money. At the same time the little man was totally ignored and left to his own devices; to sink or swim with the former being the more likely. And thirdly Bitcoin, an antidote to our financial demise, was born. All three elements are inextricably linked.
If this is an inquiry, Pres Metsola, why are there no tough questions?
More than two years since the World Health Organization declared a pandemic, it’s back to crisis management school for Members of the European Parliament. A special covid committee has convened to ‘holistically’ review ‘lessons learned’. But take a look at the European Parliament’s Decision on its remit, and you’ll see that the post-pandemic lesson plan for Europe is a little light on critical thinking.
If you can’t trust a DAO, why put money in it?
It’s been called one of the big tech trends of the year: the Decentralised Autonomous Organisation (DAO). What the Gregory is it? Well, imagine a leaderless cybernetic mob existing online; one which, potentially, has millions in shared crypto assets at its disposal. A sort of crypto co-op. Basically, DAOs are meant to be companies without a board, leader or centre. Into the executive vacuum steps a machine.
If food prices are on the rise, why ‘lose’ 1,000,000 livestock?
This week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson is in Northern Ireland. Provincial heads must be knocked together—hopefully into the shape of a devolved government. With Stormont’s political parties divided along the usual lines, and Boris facing a Belfastian knot the better of any sword, the ex-hack has picked up his pen. In The Belfast Telegraph he calls for unity, offering the Great British cost-of-living crisis as inspiration.
If the oil ban hurts Vlad, why would he turn off the gas?
It’s time to get this SCALED ball well and truly rolling. Let’s open with a hard-hitting shot. On 4 May, the European Union posited a ban on Russian oil imports. Via Twitter, the President of the European Commission claimed it would ‘maximise pressure on Russia’ and assist Ukraine in repelling Vlad’s invaders. The speed at which things are happening may startle you. Agreement was expected on Monday at an ambassadorial meeting of the 27 Member States.

Metalaw: the Law of the Metaverse
Illustration: © IoT For All 2022 will witness the birth of a new reality; a virtual one which, from on silicon high, has been dubbed “the metaverse“. It’s an immersive digital world where you may soon work, play and, naturally, enter disputes. As users resolve their differences a new legal system will emerge that we may come to call by an old name: metalaw.
[Opinion] Legal worries on EU's 'green certificates' for Covid travel
An instrument of unusual significance is quietly on its way to becoming law in Europe: the proposal for a 'Digital Green Certificate' (DGC). Up for a vote in the European Parliament's plenary on Wednesday, it erects a "universal framework" for the control of disease within the Schengen area. The EU Commission has presented it as a return to freedom of movement, essentially suspended by member states since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a pandemic.
