Used to could.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

MacBook's Pages, iPhone 14's camera, and a lexicon I started writing 20 years ago.

Who do you wish followed you?

Dead men who live on: Robert Barnwell Roosevelt, and Dr. O. Eugene Maughan, fisheries professor.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No, I was homeschooled way back in the 1900s.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

My book, America's Bountiful Waters (Stackpole).

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Write daily.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

Let's write a book about the USFWS turning 150 years old.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Outside, milling about.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That I have one.
