1 Introduction Fruit-feeding butterflies are widely used as biological models in ecological research to explore the mechanisms driving community structure at distinct scales because they can be easily sampled using established protocols with Van Someren-Rydon (VSR) bait traps (Bonebrake et al. 2010; Freitas et al. 2014). Moreover, they are an excellent tool for biodiversity monitoring and conservation and are well represented in the tropical region (Bonebrake et al. 2010).
