The emergence of systemic family therapy brought with it a number of treatment approaches and pioneers from various corners of the world, one of the most eclectic being Virginia Satir, the creator of the Human Validation Process Model. She employed various methods in her clinical work, most notably the use of self and therapeutic physical touch (Satir and Baldwin 1983).

Objective This study aimed to empirically test how trait mindfulness (i.e., one's general tendency to be mindful) and relationship mindfulness (i.e., being mindful in relationships) protect couple relationships from stress and the potential extra buffer perceived partner relationship mindfulness provides. Background Stress has harmful effects on couple relationships, but mindfulness may mitigate such effects.
