A total of 457 patients were included during the study period (Fig. 1). The median age was 3.3 months (IQR 1.3–16.1), and the median weight was 5.8 kg (IQR 4–10). The main cause of ARF was acute bronchiolitis (60.8%). The BLPAP modality was used as the first line of treatment in 79% of patients, and the total face mask was the most commonly used interface (82.9%). Table 1 describes the baseline characteristics of the patients according to sedation status. Flowchart of the study population.
