Abstract Clinical divergence between patients harboring CIC-rearrangements is frequently observed. For example, the prototypical CIC::DUX4 fusion associates with soft tissue tumors while CIC::NUTM1 fusions typically localize to the CNS (brain/spinal cord). The basis for these differences is poorly understood due to a lack of molecular tools.

This scene is a birds-eye view of the top stage of the trail to Mount Hoffmann's summit in the northern part of Yosemite National Park. Despite not being one of the better known hikes, Hoffmann is no slouch - the peak rises up to 10,855 feet to tower over the surrounding scenery and offer views all the way down to Half Dome and the rest of the more popular valley.

Sometimes the usual rollercoaster of wet lab science becomes too much to handle and necessitates a short escape to avoid thinking about whether or not you will ever finish your PhD. I have found such respite at May Lake, a quiet but accessible offshoot of Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park. It may not be as glamorous as Half Dome or El Cap, but it is arguably the easiest backpacking trip in the park, roughly a mile hike until you reach the lake and its surrounding mountain landscape.
