Our analysis draws on the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health), a study that began following a nationally representative sample of middle and high schoolers (ages 12–19) in the 1994–95 academic year. Over the ensuing three decades, these individuals participated in five waves of intensive in-home interviews as they transitioned into adulthood (Harris, Halpern, Haberstick, & Smolen, 2013).
