Optimizing anisotropic transport on bioinspired sawtooth surfaces Species ranging from butterflies and other insects, to cactuses and lotus plants have evolved to use geometrically patterned surfaces to influence the transport of water droplets. While this phenomenon is well known, an ideal geometry has yet to be discovered. To determine the impact of surface geometry on droplet transport, we have studied the contact angle and droplet motion across anisotropically wetting patterned surfaces.
