In 2018, Massachusetts state lawmakers came up with a “grand bargain” to raise pay rates for tipped workers, servers, bartenders, and others. Over a five-year period, beginning in 2019, the law steadily raised the $4.35-per-hour tipped minimum wage 60 cents each year until the rate reached $6.75 per hour in 2023. Last year, the Bay State raised the minimum wage for non-tipped workers to $15 per hour.
