Estimate projects $2.72B in wagers on NCAA basketball tournaments
An estimated $2.72 billion could be wagered on the NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments with American sportsbooks, according to an analysis released Thursday by the American Gaming Association. The $2.72 billion estimate is nearly twice as much as is believed to have been wagered on this year's Super Bowl ($1.4 billion), according to Dave Forman, head of research for the American Gaming Association (AGA), the Washington, D.C.-based lobbying group that represents the casino industry.
NBA betting: Why you shouldn't overlook the Heat come playoff time
Are the "Playoffs Heat" a thing? Can the Miami Heat flip the switch again this season, making another run deep into the playoffs and possibly back to the Finals? Let's explore. According to ESPN BET, the Heat are tied with the Knicks for the third-shortest odds to win the East at +1100, far behind the favored Celtics (-125) and Bucks (+310) and just ahead of the Cavaliers (+1200) and 76ers (+1500).
College basketball betting: Dalen Cuff's bets to make for Champ Week
The best time of the year has arrived ... well, almost. I prefer the madness of the NCAA tournament where everything is on the line every time out. But Champ Week has so many great matchups, more than 12 hours per day, and hardware is on the line -- also phenomenal. Picking winners here is not easy. Going chalk across the board is not smart money. So let's rip through the big six leagues and find some of my favorite spots to cash a few winners.
Champions Classic: Why Duke, Michigan State, Kansas and Kentucky each will (and won't) win
For years, Jon Scheyer watched from the sidelines as Mike Krzyzewski led Duke against the premier teams in college basketball. But Scheyer has put his stamp on Duke's program in his second season as head coach. With a recent commitment from five-star prospect Cooper Flagg, a potential No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA draft, the 36-year-old head coach showed he can position Duke to continue competing for more national titles. That's significant.

Kansas clear No. 1 in AP preseason hoops poll
Bill Self likes to remind his team that the faces may change at Kansas but the expectations within his program never do. Expectations outside the program? Turns out they are as high as possible this year. The Jayhawks were the clear No. 1 pick in the AP Top 25 preseason men's basketball poll released Monday, earning 46 of 63 first-place votes to easily outdistance No. 2 Duke and No. 3 Purdue.
Men's college basketball betting picks: Championship, Final Four and conference futures
Odds courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook, except where noted. Well, it's that time again, where some guy like me tells you that the college basketball season starts in a matter of weeks (Nov. 6, to be exact). Why does college hoops still begin in the thick of the college football and NFL season? And in this particular year up against "Monday Night Football"? Only the very wise people at the NCAA can tell you. But I'll save the need for a scheduling change rant for another day.

Manchester City's quest for the treble continues Saturday as the Premier League champions face off against FA Cup champion Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final from Istanbul. Notable Bets: Why a Las Vegas pro bet a lot to win a little on Purdue
Steve Fezzik, a longtime Las Vegas pro bettor, admits it: He bet a lot -- potentially upwards of $100,000 -- for a chance to win just a couple thousand dollars on heavily favored Purdue to beat Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. To Fezzik, it was "simple logic." The top-seeded, fully motivated Boilermakers were 23.5-point favorites against an undersized 16-seed in Fairleigh Dickinson.
NCAA tournament picks: Friday cheat sheet
Expanding sports betting legalization has furthered gambling conversations but the NCAA tournament bracket has remained a staple for decades. Even before the landmark 2018 Supreme Court ruling, the Big Dance annually generated action and excitement. Much like Super Bowl props, the bracket enables even casual fans to discuss a form of gambling. Brackets are routinely busted, as handicapping the tournament is a different animal, particularly when you compare it with the most recent games.

College basketball: How to bet the 2023 Men's NCAA Tournament
The best time of the year is back! With gambling being legalized all over the country, even more people can get in on the action from the comfort of their homes. College sports has changed a ton in recent years but looking at the data the past 5-10 years have been, which encapsulates the One-and-Done era, has eerily similar numbers. So as you're poring over the bracket, here are some tips as to how to bet the tournament.
March madness betting: Tips and plays for Champ Week
Champ Week is already upon us, the buzzer beaters, dreams realized and hopes dashed all in a moment. The joy of victory and the agony of defeat affects those in the arena and us with money on the combatants. The smaller conferences have already provided some drama but the power conferences are about to go center stage, and we'll focus on them here too. Picking conference winners while in league play are some of my favorite future bets.

Tennessee's Zakai Zeigler to miss rest of season with torn ACL
Tennessee starting point guard Zakai Zeigler has suffered a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season, the school announced Wednesday. Zeigler left Tuesday's game against Arkansas after landing awkwardly in the first half. There was a collective silence within Thompson-Boling Arena as Zeigler was helped to the locker room. He was immediately ruled out for the game.
Which 16 teams should you buy or fade ahead of March Madness?
Let's run it back! Last year I wrote, "This is the deepest year in recent memory in terms of teams that can cut down the nets in New Orleans." Well, last year has been replaced by this year. And this may be the new normal with the transfer portal and democratization of talent across the country, we just may see more parity going forward. We know for sure that's the case this season. So where should your dollars go?

Colin Castleton scores 20 as Gators take down No. 2 Vols
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Colin Castleton is accustomed to being double-teamed every time he touches the ball, so he was pleasantly surprised -- maybe even downright stunned -- when Tennessee opted to guard him with a single defender in the second half. "I've got to take advantage of that," Castleton said. He did. Castleton scored a game-high 20 points, including 16 in the second half, and Florida upended the second-ranked Volunteers 67-54 on Wednesday night.
Jalen Wilson, Jayhawks get by Wildcats in rematch
LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Jalen Wilson remembers every slight. Every criticism. Every chip that has landed on his shoulder. You can bet the Kansas forward remembers watching Kansas State fans storm the court after beating the Jayhawks. So with revenge on their mind, Wilson and his pals jumped on the seventh-ranked Wildcats in the rematch Tuesday night.
Which teams should you buy or fade ahead of March Madness?
As we turn the calendar to February, March looms large on the college basketball landscape and the national consciousness. This year's tournament should be wild as no team (outside maybe Purdue) has separated itself. We have yet to see greatness but a lot of good teams capable of making it to Houston and cutting down the nets.
Scenes from Coach K's final home game for Duke
8:58 PM ET The Duke Blue Devils‘ final home men’s basketball game of the regular season Saturday was the last time head coach Mike Krzyzewski roamed the sidelines of Cameron Indoor Stadium. Fittingly, his send-off comes against Duke’s rival: the North Carolina Tar Heels (6 p.m. ET on ESPN). Fans who were able to secure tickets to the game (the average price of admission was reportedly over $5,000) saw as many as 96 former Blue Devils players in attendance.
Sixteen college basketball teams to buy or fade ahead of March Madness
Feb 25, 2022 Dalen CuffESPN It's hard to believe, but we are just 16 days from Selection Sunday. Last weekend, the NCAA Selection Committee revealed their top 16 seeds for the tournament. This is the deepest year in recent memory in terms of teams that can cut down the nets in New Orleans. So with that in mind, we thought we'd rip through who you should bet on, who you should fade and a few teams that should get a sprinkle. Odds from Caesars Sportsbook 1.

Kentucky-West Virginia will depend on one player, says ESPN analyst
At halftime of Purdue’s 92-88 win over Michigan on Thursday night, ESPN was promoting Saturday’s Big 12/SEC Challenge. When it comes to Kentucky-West Virginia, former Indiana coach turned studio analyst Tom Crean said the matchup boils down to one factor for Kentucky. “How do they get Sagaba Konate outside of that paint, because he is on a two-hand tear at that rim, he really is,” Crean said. “He just punches shots. He takes the ball out of the air.
Team USA must find a way to advance in Copa America
It’s that time again. Grab the red, white and blue gear, the American flags and clear your throat for some good "U-S-A" and "I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL" chants. The U.S. Men’s National Team is playing in the Copa America. It's strange to have this tournament here, because it’s the South American Championship. However, it’s the 100th anniversary so our friends to the south are spreading the love . . . and we’re hosting the tournament of the Americas. Simply said, this is a huge deal.

Los Angeles Lakers could really screw things up for Boston Celtics
So I just finished reading Gary Tanguay’s piece on why the Celtics should trade the third overall pick (which would be Kris Dunn in this scenario) for Jahlil Okafor. Not only should this be done, but Tanguay says “DO IT NOW!” Hold up a second, G Money. I know you love to say you can’t sit on the fence in this town, but when you say that I usually take that to mean you can’t be smart and patient. The Okafor-Dunn deal is by no means the huge move Danny Ainge should be focusing on.
