Before starting The New Consumer in 2019, I was the Editor in Chief at Recode, Vox Media’s tech and business news publication. Earlier in my career, I helped create Business Insider as its second employee. I’ve also been the technology editor at Quartz and a reporter at Forbes. Originally from Chicago, and now based in Los Angeles after many years in New York, I graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.

Thorne is, so far, The New Consumer deal of the summer: Last month, the supplement brand announced that Procter & Gamble, the CPG conglomerate, would acquire it for $3.8 billion, nearly six times this year’s $650 million in expected sales. Thorne’s growth has come from the usual places — product, marketing, and distribution.
