SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The recount upholding mayor-elect Christine Erickson’s runoff election victory has been the week’s big story in Sioux Falls. As such, Erickson and the runoff’s second candidate, Jamie Smith, have had the city’s attention in recent days. But this recount, just like the runoff before it and countless other elections across the state and country, wouldn’t have happened without the commitment of election workers.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The recount results are in, and Christine Erickson's runoff election victory is upheld. The recount, which concluded Thursday, says Erickson received 18,281 votes. Her opponent, Jamie Smith, received four fewer votes. Smith had requested the recount after losing by only two votes to Erickson in the runoff election on June 23. The recount, like the runoff and the initial five-candidate race as well, is now in the rearview mirror, too.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Four votes separate Sioux Falls mayoral candidates Christine Erickson and Jamie Smith after the first day of their runoff’s recount. That difference is an updated figure, but the recount process is nevertheless incomplete. A recount board reviewing Erickson and Smith’s runoff election went over the race’s absentee votes on Wednesday. The vast majority of the 32,363 cast on June 23, the day of the recount election, still need to be reviewed.
