What was your first job as a journalist?
I used to edit local fanzine dedicated to horror movies and indie-music.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I did, actually! Strangely enough and quite interesting in terms of the mechanics of the process - different set of feelings, I'd say.
How is social media changing news?
Social media increase the importance of separate individuals - like bloggers, who mostly follow their opinion rather than a factcheck.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
There are lots of true professionals I do work with - all them are great people and journalists.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means to be true to yourself, express yourself in a way that would resonate with other people.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
I don't pay attention to hashtags, to be honest.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I study all the related materials, listen, read interviews, make the whole almost scientific-type-of-research.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I do use Skype,Zoom,WhatsApp,Viber for making interviews; Obs Studio, Skype mp3 recorder for recording.
What's your favorite social network?
I can't say I have many favorites. The most frequently used is definetely VK.COM
Who do you wish followed you?
Nobody. I'm not one of these media-social people.
Why did you become a journalist?
Because I feel the constant need for a fixation of some things in my life.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
It wasn't a high-school paper rather than a fanzine. We didn't cover the local news. And had the freedom to write about what we all wanted.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Big feature article about Chimera - one of the first Russian alternative-rock bands, I wrote for Maximumrocknroll.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Keep on working without being motivated by your salary, but your heart.
When's the best time to pitch you?
In the Afternoon.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
I haven't any!
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
The first "big" interview I did - with Jack Grisham of TSOL.
What's your favorite drink?
I'm an all-rounder. If it's vodka - I usually drink Tatar vodka. If it's whiskey - only scottish. ANd of course Georgian vine for glintshake.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In my kitchen - trying some new dishes and experimenting as much as possible.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
the Quietus
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
I guess there are no misperceptions. I'm particularly clear about my area of interests
