HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY)– A person has died after being struck by a motorcycle in Hampton Tuesday morning. According to police, officers were called to the intersection of Todds Lane and Aberdeen Road just after midnight for the report of a motorcycle crash. When officers and fire personnel arrived, they found a pedestrian who had been struck by a motorcycle while in the crosswalk. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, around 5 a.m., the inmates overpowered correctional staff and seized control of the facility, prompting an immediate response from local, state and federal authorities. The inmates assaulted on-duty guards and gained control of portions of the building.

Man dies following shooting on Hunter Street in Elizabeth City ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY)– A homicide investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed in Elizabeth City Sunday morning. According to police, officers were called to the 900 block of Hunter Street at 4:30 a.m. for the report of a male gunshot victim. When officers arrived, they located 44-year-old Darren Duana Jernigan suffering from a gunshot wound.
