Python metabolomics uncovers a conserved postprandial metabolite and gut–brain feeding pathway
|
Abstract Most mammals consume small and frequent meals. By contrast, pythons are ambush predators that exhibit extreme feeding and fasting patterns and provide a unique model for uncovering molecular mediators of the postprandial response1,2,3. Using untargeted metabolomics, we show that circulating levels of the metabolite para-tyramine-O-sulphate (pTOS) are increased more than 1,000-fold in pythons after a single meal.

Now it's time to consider AI part of school infrastructure
Artificial IntelligenceOpinion By: Daniel Bernstein Date: March 2, 2026 Share post: Facebook Linkedin Twitter Pinterest WhatsApp Artificial intelligence is not a tool. It is not a gadget you buy, a software license you allocate, or a skill you train people to use before moving on to the next initiative. It is infrastructure. It belongs in the same mental category as electricity, plumbing, and the internet itself.

Age‐Dependent Increase in Small Intestinal Permeability and Sex‐Dependent Absorptive Capacity in Cats (Felis catus)
1 Introduction The integrity and functionality of the intestinal barrier can be characterised by its permeability and absorptive capacity. A healthy gastrointestinal tract (GIT) epithelium maintains low permeability to maintain selective absorption of molecules, while limiting the entry of potentially harmful substances, such as pathogens and bacteria (Craven et al. 2007).
Global Anti-Corruption Insights: Summer 2025
With the return of President Donald Trump to the White House came a new approach to enforcement of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). In February 2025, President Trump issued an executive order "pausing" most FCPA enforcement for a period of 180 days. Then, in June, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) issued new guidelines for FCPA enforcement, effectively lifting the pause while signaling the types of criminal FCPA violations on which the DOJ would and would not focus its attention.

Genome sequencing is critical for forecasting outcomes following congenital cardiac surgery - Nature Communications
Abstract While exome and whole genome sequencing have transformed medicine by elucidating the genetic underpinnings of both rare and common complex disorders, its utility to predict clinical outcomes remains understudied. Here, we use artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to explore the predictive value of whole exome sequencing in forecasting clinical outcomes following surgery for congenital heart defects (CHD).

Screening Options for Rare Malignancies
Dear colleagues, As gastroenterologists and endoscopists, we spend significant time preventing and diagnosing GI malignancies. While colorectal and esophageal cancer and their precursor lesions are well known to us, our approach to rarer malignancies is less well defined. Asymptotics for the standard block size in primal lattice attacks: second order, formally verified
Paper 2024/592 Abstract Many proposals of lattice-based cryptosystems estimate security levels by following a recipe introduced in the New Hope proposal. This recipe, given a lattice dimension n, modulus q, and standard deviation s, outputs a "primal block size" β and a security level growing linearly with β. This β is minimal such that some κ satisfies ((n+κ)s^2+1)^{1/2} < (d/β)^{1/2} δ^{2β−d−1} q^{κ/d}, where d = n + κ + 1 and δ = (β(πβ)^{1/β}/(2π exp 1))^{1/2(β−1)}.
Defining key concepts for mental state attribution - Communications Psychology
The terminology used in discussions on mental state attribution is extensive and lacks consistency. In the current paper, experts from various disciplines collaborate to introduce a shared set of concepts and make recommendations regarding future use. Our daily social interactions crucially rely on our ability to understand what other people think, believe, feel, intend and perceive. Such mental states, unlike others’ overt behaviors, are not directly observable.

What Happened to Global Carbon Markets at COP?
The final text of COP28 largely left carbon credits and markets out of the picture, pushing off unanswered questions until COP29 next year. Carbon credits are tradable credits representing a ton of carbon emissions reduced or removed from the atmosphere. Essentially, countries can pay for decarbonization projects abroad to account for their pollution at home (“pay to pollute” by some negotiators’ standards).

Analyzing the complexity of reference post-quantum software
Paper 2023/1924 Abstract Constant-time C software for various post-quantum KEMs has been submitted by the KEM design teams to the SUPERCOP testing framework. The ref/*.c and ref/*.h files together occupy, e.g., 848 lines for ntruhps4096821, 928 lines for ntruhrss701, 1316 lines for sntrup1277, and 2613 lines for kyber1024. It is easy to see that these numbers overestimate the inherent complexity of software for these KEMs. It is more difficult to systematically measure this inherent complexity.

Asymptotics of hybrid primal lattice attacks
Paper 2023/1892 Abstract The literature gives the impression that (1) existing heuristics accurately predict how effective lattice attacks are, (2) non-ternary lattice systems are not vulnerable to hybrid multi-decoding primal attacks, and (3) the asymptotic exponents of attacks against non-ternary systems have stabilized.
