Risk analysis The overall risk for female athlete to receive a THA before age 75 years was 11.6% (95% CI 8.7% to 14.3%), while it was calculated to be 7.0% in the general population. For male athletes, the risk was 8.3% (95% CI 6.8% to 9.8%), while it was 3.9% in the general population. The SIR for receiving a THA before age 75 years was 2.11 (95% CI 1.82 to 2.40) for former elite athletes in comparison to the general population.
