Margaret cavendish on passion, pleasure, and propriety
1 INTRODUCTION According to Margaret Cavendish: All Figures and Creatures have an Operative Power, which Operation is made by Sympathetical and Antipathetical motions in several Creatures or Figures, and Parts of Creatures and Figures. Is Margaret Cavendish a naïve realist?
All that I love is, like the night, outside, Good to be gazed at, looking as if it could With a simple gesture be brought inside my head Or in my heart. But my thoughts about it divide Me from my object. (Elizabeth Jennings, “In the Night,” 1953) 1 INTRODUCTION In a notorious remark, Thomas Reid says of his predecessors: They all suppose that we perceive not external objects immediately, and that the immediate objects of perception are only certain shadows of the external objects.
Violence in schizophrenia: triangulating the evidence on perpetration risk
The question of the nature and magnitude of the association between schizophrenia and risk of violence perpetration has been the subject of considerable research and wider public interest. It is a complex relationship, and important to clarify for people with mental illness and their families, with implications for health policy, mental health law, criminal justice, and public mental health. It therefore requires careful, evidence-based consideration.
Association of Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders and Violence Perpetration in Adults and Adolescents From 15 Countries

Simultaneous two-photon resonant optical laser locking (STROLLing) in the hyperfine Paschen-Back regime
We demonstrate a technique to lock simultaneously two laser frequencies to each step of a two-photon transition in the presence of a magnetic field sufficiently large to gain access to the hyperfine Paschen–Back regime. A ladder configuration with the , , and terms in a thermal vapor of atoms is used. The two lasers remain locked for more than 24 h.
